A natural travertine arch sculpture with stepped ridges and a round window cut through its face, 15 cm wide and either 20 or 30 cm tall. It is for a shelf, a console or the end of a sideboard, where one quiet stone shape gives the surface a point to rest on.
Travertine is a soft, warm limestone full of small natural pores and fine banding, and this piece keeps all of it. The arch steps back in thin layers, so the light catches a set of crisp edges, and the round opening frames whatever sits behind it: a plaster wall, a stack of books, the next object along the shelf.
The two heights work alone or together. The 20 cm arch suits a bookshelf or a bedside table; the 30 cm arch holds its own on a console or mantel, and the pair placed slightly apart reads as a small installation. Because the stone is natural, colour, pores and banding vary from piece to piece. Dust it with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from water and acids.
