A square natural travertine block, 20 x 20 cm and 4 cm deep, with a round window cut through its centre. It is for a shelf, a desk or a narrow console, where it stands upright like a small framed view.
The shape comes from the moon gates of old gardens: a solid wall with one round opening. Here it is cut from travertine, a warm limestone with soft banding and natural pores, so the flat faces show the grain of the stone while the circle frames whatever lies behind it. Set it against a plaster wall, in front of a single stem or beside a stack of books.
It is slim enough for a bookshelf and solid enough to stand on its own. Pair it with an arch or a bowl in the same stone for a quiet group. Natural stone means colour and pores vary from piece to piece. Dust with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from water and acids.
